Unfortunately there was no listing for the Deserter so Custom Custom it is! The body of my car is an original GT style Deserter from a special mid-engine version kit they sold as an option. These cars were raced quite a bit back in the eartly 70s. They used to flip the transaxle and adapt Corvair motors for an instant displacement upgrade from the VW 4 cylinder motor to 6 cylinders. The body I used for my car was so worn out it was pretty much junk. With an enormous amount of work I saved it, though. I replicated the frame with a couple of improvements. The frame alone weighs 150 pounds. The completed car weighs 1560 pounds. The motor is a 2332cc 4-cyl. VW Type 1 with a full list of serious duty parts. It has a T04 turbo blowing through dual 44mm Webers. I had to add a dry sump system to keep it properly supplied with oil. It has been clocked doing 0-60 in 4.5 seconds even with my lame starts off the line. I photographed the entire build. The photos can be viewed at this link/address http://mikeragonese.shutterfly.com/thedeserter I think you will like it. It has won many trophies. With 8,000 miles on it now, I am driving it every sunny day I get. Every winter I either add, revise or update several things such as the seats, the brake cooling backing plates/ducts, the tow hooks, exhaust system and lots more. Thanks, Mike R.
